Apart from his personal interest, my grandfather built the
watergardens for 2 main purposes:

To ensure and improve the holiness of a holy place;
·
To create a place of contemplation, rest and joy for
every one, the local people as well as the domestic and foreign visitors.
These are still and will always be the
purposes of the gardens.
The main income of the gardens is a
little amount entrance fee from the visitors. This income is just enough to pay
the local workers to guard and keep the garden clean. It has always been far
too little to do even the minimum of maintenance and rehabilitation
works. Increasing the entrance fee is not preferable, as it will exclude many
people in enjoying the garden.
Water is both a blessing and a plague.
One of the greatest difficulties is the effect of the too generous amount of
water. It is flowing not only in the ponds and canals that one can see, but
invisibly all the time seeping slowly underground over the whole area. It not
only inevitably and constantly undermines all structures, it takes all soluble
underground material away. At many places the ground level is slowly coming
down. From time to time the surface need to be raised.
Therefore, your donation will be used
to finance the following works according to the masterplan:

Executing unavoidable maintenance works, such us
rebuilding collapsed walls, restoring gutters and raising ground levels;
·
Restoring, replacing and rearranging the
constructions, vegetation and sculptures, to reach the same or even more beauty
and quality of the watergardens as it was before the eruption.
